Thai Mango Sticky Rice Recipe

4 8+ hrs hard

Have you ever tried mango sticky rice? If you have, then you know just how heavenly the combination of sweet, juicy mangos, sticky rice, and creamy coconut milk can be. It's a perfect balance of flavors and textures that is truly irresistible.

Known in Thailand as "Khao-Niew-Ma-Muang," mango sticky rice is a traditional summer dessert in Thailand, where mangos are in season during the warm months. It's a popular dish that can be found in many restaurants, hotels, and even street food stalls throughout the country. And the good news is that it's also easy to make at home, so you can enjoy the deliciousness of mango sticky rice anytime you like.

To make this recipe, you are going to need:

  • 250 G. Sticky rice or Glutinous rice
  • 3/4 Cup Coconut milk
  • 3/4 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 3/4 Tsp. Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Coconut milk
  • 1 Tbs. Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp. Salt

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make Thai Mango Sticky Rice:

1 Wash the rice until the water is clear. I always do it 5 times or until the water runs clear.

2 Soak the rice with cold water for at least 6 hours or up to overnight. This step is important to ensure that the rice cooks absorbs moisture after it has been done.

3 Drain the water off very well and go steam the rice for 20 minutes.

4 While you waiting for the sticky rice done, you can start on the coconut milk syrup and you will use it right away after the sticky rice is done.

5 Combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt together until it melted.

6 Pour the coconut milk syrup over the rice immediately when the rice is done.

7 Stir them until the coconut milk syrup looks absorbed with the sticky rice. Put a lid on it and let it rest for 20 minutes and stir it again from the bottom to top and rest for the next 20 minutes or until ready to serve. The sticky rice will become soft, sweet, and rich.

8 Combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt over low heat until it melted and liquid starts bubbling.

9 Peel and slice ripe mango. Place the sticky rice on top with mango. Don’t forget to top with the salted coconut sauce over the rice. You can make a nice decoration to present your yummy Mango sticky rice on your way. Enjoy!
