Authentic Thai Lime Soda (Daeng Manao Soda) Recipe

1 10 mins easy

Thai Lime Soda with red Sala syrup, also known as Daeng Manao Soda in Thai, is one of the most popular drinks in Thailand. We often order it whenever we want to replenish our energy and freshen up from the sweaty heat of Thailand.

This delicious drink comprises only three basic ingredients: Hale’s Blue Boy Sala’s Syrup, freshly squeezed lime, and soda water. These components come together to create the perfect, balanced, and refreshing concoction with just the right blend of sweetness, sourness, and fizziness.

Making Thai Lime Soda at home is very easy and takes less than 10 minutes. The key to creating the unique flavor of Thai Lime Soda is using freshly squeezed lime and soda that is freshly opened, straight from the bottle. It has to still be fizzy when you pour it in so that it maintains its freshness.

Another key ingredient is Hale’s Blue Boy Sala’s Syrup, a sweet, bright red syrup inspired by the Southeast Asian palm fruit known as Salacca. Salacca has a slightly sour taste, resembling a combination of pineapple and strawberry.

While the taste of Hale’s Blue Boy Sala’s syrup may not precisely mimic that of the real fruit, that doesn’t deter us Thais from using it to craft a sweet and aromatic flavored drink to keep us refreshed during hot summer days. We've incorporated lime into the mix to make the taste as close to the real fruit as possible while also ensuring it remains delicious.

For this recipe, I recommend using Sala’s Syrup from Hale Blue Boy, which you can purchase from some Asian markets or you can order one from Amazon. However, if you cannot find Hale’s Blue Boy Sala syrup, feel free to substitute it with any other brand available at your local store.
